The luxury end of Phuket: superyachts, jets and helicopters

Phuket’s luxury layer is easy to describe in adjectives and hard to describe in numbers, because the companies that serve it rarely publish a price. This guide collects the figures that are published, on the companies’ own sites, and says where each one comes from. Every price below is a listed figure, not an estimate or an average.

Where the top end actually is

Not Patong. Read the infrastructure and the top of the market sits in the north and north-east of the island.

The pattern is consistent: the deepest water, the shortest transfers and the aviation infrastructure are all at the northern end, while the island’s busiest tourist strip in the south-west has none of them. The one southern exception is Chalong Pier, which handles the largest number of day charters but publishes no berth or depth figures at all, because it is a public pier rather than a marina.

Superyachts: what a week costs

The APA is the part people miss. An advance provisioning allowance of 30 percent on a USD 200,000 week is another USD 60,000 held against fuel, food and berthing during the charter, settled at the end. It is not a deposit and it is not profit; it is a float, and what is unspent comes back.

For comparison, a fully crewed week from an international fleet at the same island is an order of magnitude below that: The Moorings quotes Thailand crewed charters at USD 17,999 to 24,749 for seven days. The gap between a crewed charter and a superyacht charter is not a grade of service, it is a different market.

Private jets: published hourly ranges

Nobody publishes a Phuket route price, but two brokers publish category tables.

Both are published by brokers as category estimates, and both sites state that the final figure depends on aircraft, route and dates. They are useful as an order of magnitude and useless as a quote.

Helicopters: the one part of the top end with fixed prices

This is the only corner of the luxury market on Phuket where a visitor can read a number, book it, and know what it costs before speaking to anyone.

The baht conversion is indicative only, since the superyacht figure is quoted in dollars and moves with the exchange rate. Park fees, catering above the standard, fuel surcharges and crew gratuities are not in this figure, and on a superyacht charter the APA sits on top of everything.

Key numbers at a glance

• One marina on Phuket publishes a superyacht capacity: Ao Po Grand Marina, 230 berths, up to 499 tons, up to 7 m of water.
• A superyacht week is USD 192,500 to 210,000 plus a 30 percent APA; a fully crewed week from an international fleet is USD 17,999 to 24,749.
• A private jet is USD 3,500 an hour at the bottom of the range and USD 25,000 or more at the top.
• A whole helicopter is ฿51,900 to ฿144,900 for 40 to 120 minutes, or ฿78,750 an hour plus VAT.
• The shortest airport-to-berth transfer on the island is 10 km, to Phuket Yacht Haven; the busiest departure pier, Chalong, is about 42 km and 45 to 60 minutes.
• Helipads named by operators sit at Six Senses Yao Noi, Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort and Koh Mai Thon, none of them on Phuket’s main tourist strip.
