Phuket yacht charters in Russian, Chinese and French

“Do you speak Russian?” is one of the most common questions sent to Phuket charter companies, and the websites answer a slightly different question: they tell you what language the pages were translated into. That is worth knowing, and it is not the same as knowing who will read your enquiry or who will be on the boat. This guide counts what the 25 companies in our yacht charter rating actually publish, and separates the three promises that get mixed up.

What the 25 sites are published in

Every site in the rating is readable in English. After that the market thins quickly: twelve companies publish a Thai version, seven publish Russian, seven French, six Chinese, six German, and everything else is the work of one or two international brands. Nine companies publish in English and nothing else.

Three different promises

The word “languages” on a charter site can mean three things, and only the first one is usually stated.

The pages are translated. This is what almost every multilingual charter site offers: the same pages served under /ru/, /de/, /zh/ or behind a flag selector. It tells you that you can read the boat descriptions and, sometimes, the terms. It says nothing about the inbox.

A person on the team speaks it. Two companies say this. Yacht Charters Co. states an English, German and Thai speaking team in its FAQ, on a site that is otherwise in English. Star Sailing Club states the crew language on the homepage.

The crew on the boat speaks it. Star Sailing Club is the only company of the 25 that publishes this, as “Language English and Russian”. For every other boat in Phuket, the language spoken during the eight hours you are actually on board is something you have to ask about.

The distinction matters most in the middle of the day, not at the booking stage. A translated booking page and an English-only captain is a common combination, and it is not a scam; it is simply not what most people assume they bought.

Which company publishes in which language

Two sites carry most of the range. Simba Sea Trips offers eight languages from a header selector: English, Thai, French, German, Spanish, Arabic, Russian and Chinese. Dream Yacht Charter publishes eight versions covering seven languages, counting US and UK English separately. Faraway Yachting is the broadest of the Phuket-based operators with seven, and Star Sailing Club is the only site in the rating with a Hindi version.

English only, and English and Thai

Nine companies publish in English alone: Ombre Yacht, 5 Star Marine, Phuket Sail Tours, Aquamarine Asia, Boat and Beyond, Hartt Voyages, Isabella Yachts, Elite Charters and Sea 2 Charters, whose site has been offline since before the September 2026 check and whose facts come from an archived copy. Four more publish in English and Thai and stop there: Tiger Marine Charter, AIM Charters, Once Yachting and Blue Voyage Thailand.

An English-only site is not a smaller company. Several of the highest-scoring operators in the rating sell entirely in English, because the charter market in Phuket runs on it: the crews, the marinas, the port paperwork and most of the guests. What an English-only site does mean is that everything you will be held to, the quotation, the exclusions and the cancellation clause, will be in English, and that you should read it in English rather than in a browser translation.

Where a translated site stops

Translation tends to cover the pages that sell and to stop at the pages that bind.

The clearest example is the pair of international brands. Sunsail presents its Phuket pages in four English editions plus German, French and Dutch, and The Moorings in English, German, French and Spanish. Both link the same booking conditions, and both link them as an English-language PDF. You can browse a Thai catamaran in Dutch and then sign a contract that exists only in English.

Currency does the same thing. Dream Yacht Charter publishes in eight versions and prices in euro; several agency sites publish in three or four languages and price in dollars. Which prices are quoted in baht is one of the eight criteria in this rating, and it is covered in the prices guide.

One more caution about counting. We record a language when the company publishes it: a language version of the site, a language selector, or a sentence naming the team’s languages. We do not record flags. Asiamarine, for example, shows Thai flag icons beside some staff names on its contact page, which we did not count as a stated support language. How to check before you pay

1. Send the enquiry in your language. The reply tells you more than any flag: whether it is in your language, whether it answers the question, and how long it took.
2. Ask which language the written quotation and terms will be in. If the answer is English and you will rely on a translation, translate it yourself before the deposit, not after a dispute.
3. Ask which language the crew speaks. Ask about the captain specifically. On most Phuket boats the captain and crew are Thai and work in English and Thai.
4. Ask which number answers on the day. Blue Voyage Thailand publishes separate English and Thai enquiry lines, which is the exception rather than the rule; most operators publish one number and one messaging account.
5. Check the terms page in the language you were sold in. If the German version of the site links English terms, that is your answer about which language the contract is in.

How the rating counts languages

Support languages are one of eight published criteria and carry 5 points out of 100: three or more languages score 5, two score 3, one scores 1. It is a deliberately small weight. A translated website is a convenience, not evidence that a company is licensed, priced transparently or long-established, and the criteria that carry real weight, the Google record, the licence, baht prices and booking transparency, are described in full on the methodology page.
