How to book and pay for a Phuket yacht charter

Booking a yacht in Phuket is not one process but three, and which one you get decides everything else: whether you pay today or in a week, whether a card costs you an extra 5 percent, and whether the price you saw is the price you pay. This guide sets out how the 25 companies in our yacht charter rating actually take money, using only what each of them publishes. Three ways a charter is sold

Book and pay online. Six companies let you choose a date and pay on the site without waiting for anyone: Ombre Yacht, Simba Sea Trips, Phuket Sail Tours, Hartt Voyages, Nikorn Marine and Dream Yacht Charter. What is sold this way is usually a fixed product, a seat, a zone or a standard day trip, so the price does not need negotiating. Hartt Voyages is the exception that proves the rule: its boat pages are a Shopify form with two variants, “Full Payment” and “50% Deposit”, for a whole boat.

Enquiry first. Eighteen companies answer a form with a quotation. This is the standard route for a named boat with a crew, because the price depends on the date, the route, the number of guests and the season, and because the boat has to be confirmed as free. Star Sailing Club states the logic on its own booking form: “No prepayment at this step — the team confirms availability first.”

Contact details only. One company in the rating, Sea 2 Charters, publishes no booking form at all. Its site has been offline since before the September 2026 check, so it is listed without a rank and its facts come from an archived copy.

None of the three is a warning sign in itself. An instant checkout is not proof of a better boat, and an enquiry form is not a delaying tactic; they are different products sold in different ways.

What to put in the first message

An enquiry that contains five facts comes back as a quotation. One that contains fewer comes back as a question, which costs a day.

1. The date, and whether it is fixed or movable.
2. The number of guests, counting infants. Licensed capacity is a legal limit, not a preference, and the answer changes which boats can be offered.
3. The pier you can reach. A charter from Ao Po and the same charter from Chalong are different days out; our marinas and piers guide sets out which routes suit which departure point.
4. The route or islands you have in mind, or the phrase “open to suggestions”, which is a real answer.
5. A budget figure in baht. This is the single fastest way to get a named boat instead of a price range.

What a real quotation contains

A quotation you can act on names the boat, gives the total in Thai baht, and lists what is excluded. If any of the three is missing, the number is an estimate. Tourism law in Thailand expects more than that: the tour programme document that goes with an advertised trip is supposed to state the operator’s name and licence number, the price and payment method, the vessel, the route, meals, the guide and the accident insurance. In practice, ask for the exclusions in the same message as the price, because park fees, alcohol, transfers and toys are where a quotation moves.

When the money moves

The pattern is consistent enough to use as a check: a day charter that asks for 100 percent six months out, or a week-long bareboat that asks for nothing until the day, is outside what the market publishes and deserves a question.

How you can pay

Six rails cover almost everything sold in Phuket.

• An online checkout. Ombre Yacht and Simba Sea Trips take card payments through Stripe, Simba via the Bokun booking platform; Phuket Sail Tours runs WooCommerce; Hartt Voyages runs Shopify. You get an immediate confirmation email from the platform, which is also your receipt.
• A Thai payment gateway. Nikorn Marine uses Paysolution, which offers credit cards or payment at a counter service in Thailand.
• PromptPay and Thai QR. AIM Charters lists PromptPay and GB Pay in its footer. PromptPay is instant and free for a Thai bank account; from abroad it is not usable.
• A payment link. 5 Star Marine sends one for the 30 percent deposit. It is a one-off card page issued for your booking, not a public checkout.
• Bank transfer. The default for larger charters and for anything quoted in a foreign currency. Expect to pay the sending and intermediary bank fees yourself, and expect the operator to want the transfer receipt.
• Cash on the day. Common for the balance where the terms say “balance on the day”, and universal for national park fees, which the crew pay in baht at the gate.

What paying by card costs

Two companies publish a card surcharge. Hartt Voyages states 5 percent on credit-card payments in its terms. AIM Charters lists 4.5 percent for Visa and Mastercard and 4.76 percent for American Express and UnionPay on its yacht pages. On a 100,000 baht charter that is 4,500 to 5,000 baht, so it belongs in the comparison rather than in the surprise at the end.

Two other costs sit in the same place. Refunds can carry a fixed bank fee: Boat and Beyond deducts 300 baht from a full refund. And on a superyacht, the charter fee is not the total: Boat Lagoon Yachting shows ”+ APA 30%” on its superyacht listings, an advance provisioning allowance the captain spends on fuel, food, drink and fees during the charter and accounts for at the end.

Finally, currency. A price quoted in dollars or euros is converted twice, once by your card and once by the operator’s bank, and neither rate is yours. Our prices guide sets out which parts of the Phuket market quote in baht and which do not.

Who you are actually paying

The brand on the website is often not the company on the invoice. Faraway Yachting publishes “Faraway Yachting Co., Ltd.” with its VAT number and licence 34/02546 in its impressum. Hartt Voyages prints “Hart Voyages Co., Ltd.”, with a single t, on its terms page. Ombre Yacht is operated by Chamnanthang Co., Ltd. None of that is irregular; it is how Thai companies and brands relate. What matters is that the name on the bank details matches the name on the terms page, and that you keep both, because a refund or a dispute is with the legal entity and not with the brand.

The same check applies to the licence. Eight of the 25 companies publish a tourism licence number on the site; the other seventeen do not, which does not prove they lack one but does mean you cannot verify it before paying. Which channel, and when

Published contact hours are short by international standards and generous by Thai ones. AIM Charters lists office hours of 8:00 to 17:00 and reservations 24/7. Once Yachting publishes 8:00 to 17:00 daily. Blue Voyage Thailand publishes 09:00 to 19:00 daily, with separate English and Thai enquiry numbers, LINE and WhatsApp. Messaging apps are normal business channels here rather than an informality: Isabella Yachts asks for a WhatsApp number in the enquiry form itself.

Phuket is UTC+7. An enquiry sent from Europe in the evening lands after the office closes, which is why a reply “the next morning” is often eighteen hours later, not a bad sign.

Before you press pay

• The boat is named in the quotation, not described as a category.
• The total is in baht, or you have accepted the conversion.
• The exclusions are listed in the same document as the price.
• The card surcharge, if any, is in the total.
• The deposit percentage and the balance date are written down.
• The cancellation clause that applies to your booking is quoted, not linked. Fourteen of the 25 companies publish inclusions, deposit and cancellation terms together; three publish none of them, and for those the terms exist only in whatever you are sent.
• The name on the payment details matches the name on the terms page.
