Helicopter tours and charter in Phuket: routes and prices

Helicopter flights over Phuket are sold two ways: a seat on a scheduled scenic route, or a charter of the whole aircraft. Published seat prices run from about 4,900 to 19,900 baht depending on duration, and a private charter of an entire helicopter runs from about 51,900 baht for a short flight to well over 150,000 baht for a longer route with an island landing. This guide lists what operators and resellers publish on their own sites, with the source for every figure.

How helicopter tours are sold in Phuket

Two commercial models appear across the sites reviewed. The first is a seat on a group flight, priced per person, where the operator combines passengers to fill the helicopter. The second is a private charter of the whole aircraft for one party. Skydance Helicopter Tours states directly that its tours are sold on a per-seat basis, with the option to buy every seat, or to charter the helicopter, if a private flight is wanted. Premium Phuket lists both a shared “minimum 4 people” group price and separate private prices for a group of up to five or six.

Most published Phuket tours use a single-engine helicopter seating about five or six passengers plus the pilot. Skydance’s aircraft is an Airbus Helicopters EC-130 T2 with one pilot and six passenger seats. Premium Phuket names a wider set of helicopter types used for excursions over Phuket, including the Bell 407, Eurocopter AS350 Ecureuil, Airbus H130 and Eurocopter EC155, each seating five or six, and larger aircraft such as the Agusta Westland 139 (15 seats) and the Sikorsky S-92 (24 seats) for group work.

Helipads and departure points

Skydance’s own helipad, called the Skydance Heliport, sits near Nai Yang Beach close to Phuket International Airport, and its published helipad list also names the Wyndham Sea Pearl Patong, Koh Mai Thon (Honeymoon Island), Krabi Airport, Ao Nang, Koh Lanta, the Phi Phi Island Village Beach Resort and Six Senses Yao Noi on Koh Yao Noi. Helicopter Bangkok states that it operates from five points across Thailand, one of which is Phuket, alongside Bangkok, Pattaya, Chiang Mai and Hua Hin.

Operators, resellers and directories

Some sites operate the aircraft themselves, and some resell flights on another company’s helicopter. Skydance Helicopter Tours is described on its own pages as part of the Advance Aviation group, and its fleet, booking terms and Aircraft Charter Agreement reference Advance Aviation directly. Advance Aviation runs its own EC-130 T2 helicopter from a base near Phuket International Airport.

Premium Phuket, VIP Luxury Services and Thailand Planner are concierge or event businesses that add a helicopter flight to a wider travel or event booking rather than operating aircraft. Thailand Planner’s own description covers weddings, parties and executive events with “the VIP logistics that make them sing: superyacht charters, private jets, helicopters” and similar services, run on a fixed management fee. Helithai is a directory page listing helicopter companies and addresses across Thailand, including Skydance and Advance Aviation. Helicopter Bangkok describes itself as a Bangkok-based charter and sightseeing business with an operating point in Phuket and helicopters seating four, five or eight passengers, though its published pages do not list Phuket prices.

Published seat and flight prices

The table below lists prices exactly as published by each site, with the basis stated by the source.

Advance Aviation’s Phuket rate is quoted per flight hour rather than per tour, with a stated 30-minute minimum charge and waiting time billed at 2,625 baht per 30 minutes. Premium Phuket separately lists per-person tour packages that combine a helicopter flight with other services, for example a route over Phi Phi Island, Phang Nga Bay and Phuket priced from 3,400 US dollars per person, which is not directly comparable with a flight-only seat price.

Tour routes and durations

Premium Phuket’s route list also names a flight to Koh Racha, about 105 minutes total with 45 minutes of flight time, and an overnight Full Moon Party route to Koh Phangan with about 150 minutes of flight time.

Transfers to islands and to Krabi

Helicopter transfers reach several destinations beyond Phuket itself. Skydance’s Sightseeing Flight with Landing product sets down on Phi Phi Island, on Koh Yao Noi, and on Mai Thon Island, each with roughly two hours on the ground before the return flight. Its helipad list separately names Krabi Airport, Ao Nang and Koh Lanta as locations it serves, alongside Phang Nga’s Khao Lak and Koh Yao Noi’s Six Senses resort. Premium Phuket’s own route descriptions add Koh Racha and a longer combined route covering Phang Nga, Phi Phi, Krabi and Phuket in a single flight.

What is usually included

Skydance states that its seat prices include tour narration from the pilot, parking at its own heliport, applicable taxes and fees, and refreshments after the flight; ground transport to and from the helipad is included on the Phuket Scenic and Phang Nga Signature tours for groups of four or more, but costs an additional 4,280 baht per vehicle on the shorter Phuket Discovery route. A seat next to the pilot carries a further 750 baht charge. Advance Aviation’s hourly Phuket rate is quoted exclusive of 7 percent VAT, with waiting time, delay beyond a 15-minute grace period, and any rescheduling inside 24 hours of the flight each billed separately under its published terms.

Weight, weather and safety rules

Skydance’s pricing policy requires a passenger over 100 kg to buy an additional seat, and allows an infant under two to travel free on a guardian’s lap. Its FAQ page states that pilots have each logged over 2,000 flight hours, its most experienced pilot past 6,000 hours, and that the EC-130 may fly as low as 300 feet on a scenic route. If weather prevents a scheduled flight, Skydance’s policy is to reschedule at no charge or issue a full refund if the passenger prefers not to rebook.

Checking an operator before you book

In Thailand, commercial air operators hold an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) issued by the Civil Aviation Authority of Thailand (CAAT), and a broker or reseller arranges a flight on an operator’s own aircraft rather than holding a certificate itself. Before paying, ask which company actually owns and flies the helicopter, its AOC number, the exact aircraft type and seat count, and whether the quoted price is per seat or for the whole aircraft. A stated pilot-hours figure, a named heliport, and a written cancellation and weather policy are the kind of detail an operator publishes when it flies the aircraft directly rather than reselling another company’s flight.
