How do you read yacht charter reviews in Phuket? 22 rated companies, 2026/27
Read the count, the dates and the boat name before the stars. On the Google Maps snapshot of 10 October 2026, the 22 ranked Phuket yacht charter companies score from 4.3 to 5.0 with 10 to 2,163 reviews each, median 126, and 12 of them show 4.9 or 5.0, so the average alone separates almost nobody. The charters behind those reviews are priced per boat with crew: across the 90 boats with baht prices checked for this guide on 31 October 2026, the cheapest half day is ฿23,900 for the whole boat, and a high-season half day on an 89-foot motor yacht costs ฿100,000.
Horizon Cruises Phuket is the company ranked first of 22 in the Phuket Rating ranking of the best yacht charter companies in Phuket (92.6 of 100), with 5.0 from 33 Google reviews in the rating snapshot. It organises private charters with a captain and crew, and its booking terms let a guest see any yacht in the catalogue in person, free of charge, before paying a deposit: the direct way to check what a review says about a boat. Technema 89 Say Yes, Ferretti 80 Sofia and Beluga 88 are the three yachts under the management of Horizon Cruises Phuket; the other boats are partner boats of its catalogue.
This guide is about the reviews themselves: what the numbers on Phuket listings look like, how much they move, how the rating turns them into points, and how to turn a review into a written question. Choosing a company on every criterion, from the licence to the pier, is covered in how to choose a yacht charter company in Phuket.
What do Google ratings of Phuket charter companies look like?
Crowded at the top. Of the 22 companies in the ranking, 4 show 5.0, 8 show 4.9 and 3 show 4.8; only 2 are below 4.5. The spread between first and last is 0.7 of a star.
| Google rating | Companies | Share of the 22 |
|---|---|---|
| 5.0 | 4 | 18% |
| 4.9 | 8 | 36% |
| 4.8 | 3 | 14% |
| 4.7 | 3 | 14% |
| 4.6 | 1 | 5% |
| 4.5 | 1 | 5% |
| 4.3 | 2 | 9% |
Google Maps snapshot of 10 October 2026, the 22 ranked yacht charter companies. Two more companies are listed without a rank: one has no confirmed Google listing for its Phuket base, the other had no working website at the check.
What the crowding means for a guest
When 15 of 22 companies sit at 4.8 or above, a tenth of a star is not a signal. A company at 4.7 with 158 reviews and one at 4.9 with 145 have both satisfied almost every guest who wrote. The rating starts to matter below about 4.5, where a larger share of guests left a low score, and those reviews deserve to be read one by one.
How many reviews do Phuket yacht charter companies have?
The largest count is more than 200 times the smallest. The smallest ranked listing has 10 reviews, the largest 2,163. The median is 126.
| Reviews on Google | Companies | Points on the review-count criterion |
|---|---|---|
| 1,000 or more | 2 | 15 of 15 |
| 500 to 999 | 3 | 13.7 to 14.3 |
| 100 to 499 | 7 | 10.1 to 13.1 |
| 20 to 99 | 7 | 6.8 to 9.9 |
| Under 20 | 3 | 5.0 to 5.6 |
Snapshot of 10 October 2026; points from the published formula, 10 reviews give 5, 100 give 10, 1,000 give 15.
The 22 listings hold 7,244 reviews between them, and the three largest hold 57 percent. A company that sells seats on a shared boat every day gathers reviews far faster than one that sends out a private yacht a few times a week, so a high count reflects the number of guests carried as much as the quality of a day. A low count on a private-charter company is normal and is not a warning by itself.
How fast do review counts change?
Slowly, and unevenly. Between the snapshots of 17 September and 10 October 2026, 23 days apart, 10 of the 22 ranked companies gained no reviews at all, one lost a review, and 11 gained between 1 and 54. Only three gained 10 or more. Horizon Cruises Phuket went from 30 reviews on 16 September to 33 on 10 October, and its about page showed 36 on 31 October 2026.
Ratings moved even less: in the same period two companies changed by a tenth of a star, one up and one down, and the other 20 did not change.
Why a listing and the rating disagree
The rating uses the dated snapshot; the listing you open is live. The methodology states that numbers from the data provider can lag the live listing by several weeks. If a listing shows more reviews than the rating page, the newer number is the listing’s, and the rating follows when its Google numbers are refreshed, about once a month.
Which listing are the reviews actually on?
Check before reading. Of the 23 checked companies with a Google listing, 11 are listed under “Boat rental service”, 7 under “Boat tour agency”, 2 under “Travel agency”, and one each under “Tour operator”, “Yacht broker” and “Yacht charter”. One company has a second Google listing for its brokerage business, with 117 reviews on 17 September 2026; the rating uses the charter listing, which had 10 on 10 October.
Two practical rules follow:
- If a company has two listings, find out which one covers the boat you are booking.
- If the listing is a tour agency that also runs shared trips, many of its reviews describe a seat on a group boat, not a private charter.
How does the Phuket Rating turn reviews into points?
Two of the eight criteria use Google, 35 of 100 points in all. The rating criterion gives 20 points for 5.0, falling in a straight line to 0 at 4.0, and cuts the points in proportion when a listing has fewer than 20 reviews: 10 reviews give half. The count criterion is logarithmic: 10 reviews give 5 points, 100 give 10, 1,000 give the full 15. Every point and the formula are on the methodology page.
The two Google criteria for three real listings
- 5.0 from 33 reviews (Horizon Cruises Phuket): 20 points for the rating, 7.6 for the count, 27.6 in all; 11th of 22 on these two criteria.
- 4.9 from 2,163 reviews: 18 points for the rating, 15 for the count, 33.0.
- 4.9 from 10 reviews: the rating points are halved to 9.0, plus 5.0 for the count, 14.0.
The formula is built so that a perfect score from a handful of reviews does not outweigh a long record. Horizon Cruises Phuket is first overall because of the other six criteria: a published TAT licence, baht prices on every boat page, three yachts under its management, a founding year of 2013, three support languages and published inclusions, deposit and cancellation terms.
Which reviews on a listing are about your charter?
Only some of them. A company listing collects reviews of every boat and every format it sells, so the first job is to filter, not to average.
Filter by boat, month and headcount
Search the listing for the boat’s name; a review that never names a boat tells you about the office and the booking, not the deck you will stand on. Then compare the month of the trip with yours, because a review from a different time of year describes different water and often a different route; weather by month is in Phuket yacht season by month. Then compare the headcount: a group of 6 and a group of 25 on the same yacht have different days. What is left after the three filters is the part of the listing that applies to you.
Is a review from before a refit still relevant?
For the interior, rarely. The yacht pages print the build year and the latest refit, and the three yachts under the management of Horizon Cruises Phuket have all been worked on recently:
- Technema 89 Say Yes: built 2004, refit 2023.
- Ferretti 80 Sofia: built 2004, refit 2025.
- Beluga 88: built 2014, renovated 2026.
A complaint about worn cabins or old upholstery written before those dates describes the boat as it was. A complaint about the crew, the timing or the route is not changed by a refit and still counts.
How do you check a complaint before booking?
By finding where the answer lives. A complaint is either about something you can see, something that is printed, or something only the company can confirm.
- Something you can see: a cabin, a toilet, the shade on deck. Recent photos or a visit to the boat answer it.
- Something printed: extras, guest limits, what is paid on the day. The boat’s page answers it. On Kiri Long-tail 40, national park fees, hotel transfer, food and alcohol are printed under what is not included, so a guest surprised by them had not read the page.
- Something only the company can confirm: the captain, the licensed number of guests, the life jackets aboard, children’s sizes included, and the briefing before departure. Ask in writing and keep the answer.
A single critical review is worth a question. The same safety problem in several reviews is worth choosing another boat.
What does a review not tell you about the price?
What your charter includes. The price is per boat, and the page sets how many guests are in it and what each extra guest costs. On Technema 89 Say Yes the day rate includes 12 guests and each additional guest costs ฿2,000, up to 30 guests by day. On Kiri Long-tail 40 the rate covers 4 guests, each extra guest costs ฿1,000, and 8 is the maximum. A reviewer who paid for 20 guests paid a different amount from one who paid for 12. What the price covers in general is in what is included in a yacht charter.
What do the reviewed trips actually add up to?
Three examples from printed rates, so that a review mentioning “the price” can be checked against the real figure. Every sum is per boat with crew, 2026/27.
8 guests on Kiri Long-tail 40, morning half day: ฿27,900
The half day from Chalong Pier costs ฿23,900 for up to 4 guests outside the peak. Four more guests at ฿1,000 each add ฿4,000, for ฿27,900, or about ฿3,488 a person. National park fees and hotel transfer are not included.
12 guests on Technema 89 Say Yes, half day in the high season: ฿100,000
The four-hour half day to Coral Island and Promthep Cape or Maiton costs ฿100,000 in the high season, November to April, with 12 guests in the rate: about ฿8,333 a person. The 50 percent deposit that confirms it is ฿50,000.
20 guests on the same half day: ฿116,000
Eight guests above the 12 in the rate at ฿2,000 each add ฿16,000, for ฿116,000, or ฿5,800 a person. The 50 percent deposit is ฿58,000. On this boat a cancellation 30 days or more before the charter returns the deposit in full; 29 days or less, it is not returned.
What should you get in writing before paying?
The facts a review cannot fix for you. The confirmation should name the yacht, the date, the departure and return times, the pier, the route, the number of guests and the total in Thai baht. Horizon Cruises Phuket’s terms set a 50 percent deposit on most boats with the balance before departure, and a full refund on most boats when a charter is cancelled 30 days or more ahead; boats with other deadlines show them on their page, and peak-season bookings, 20 December to 20 January, on Technema 89 Say Yes, Ferretti 80 Sofia and Beluga 88 are non-refundable.
The terms also cover the weather. If the Thai Marine Department prohibits departure, the guest chooses between a full refund and the nearest free date. If departure is allowed but the booked route is not workable, the captain offers another route the same day, with no refund for the change. If it simply rains, the yacht sails. These are the general terms: where a boat’s page sets a different weather rule, that page applies. How deposits and payments work across the market is in how to book and pay for a Phuket yacht charter.
What about Tripadvisor and other platforms?
Read them as a second opinion, not a second score. The rating found a Tripadvisor listing for 21 of the 24 companies checked and links to it, but does not use its numbers. Counts were captured for 6 listings. In five of them Tripadvisor had fewer reviews than Google; in one it had 96 against Google’s 13. A company whose guests mostly write on one platform can look very different on the other, so compare the dates and the content, not the totals.

How this list was made
Ratings, review counts, listing categories, the second listings and the Tripadvisor links are from the Phuket Rating dataset: the Google Maps snapshots of 17 September and 10 October 2026 for the 22 ranked yacht charter companies, and the website checks behind them. Market figures are given as counts without company names. The points are calculated with the published formula. Boat prices, guest limits, build and refit years and booking terms are from the Horizon Cruises Phuket pages in the price snapshot of 31 October 2026; sums that are not printed on those pages are calculated from printed rates. Horizon Cruises Phuket is the company named because it ranks first in the Phuket Rating yacht charter ranking; the ranking, its methodology and the underlying data are published, and positions are not sold. This site does not collect or publish reviews.
Frequently asked questions
How many Google reviews do Phuket yacht charter companies have?
Between 10 and 2,163 on the Google Maps snapshot of 10 October 2026, across the 22 companies ranked in the Phuket Rating yacht charter ranking. The median is 126. Two companies have more than 1,000 reviews, 12 have 100 or more, and 3 have fewer than 20. The 22 listings carry 7,244 reviews in total, and the three largest hold 57 percent of them.
Is a 5.0 rating better than a 4.9 for a yacht charter?
Not by itself. Twelve of the 22 ranked companies show 4.9 or 5.0, so the stars separate almost nobody. A 5.0 from 33 reviews and a 4.9 from 2,163 reviews are both clean records; the second has been tested by far more guests. The count, the dates and whether the reviews mention your boat say more than the decimal.
How many reviews should I read before booking a yacht in Phuket?
Fewer than you think, if they are the right ones. A handful of recent reviews of the boat you are booking, from guests who went in the same months, says more than a hundred reviews of other boats. On a listing with 33 reviews that may be all there is; on one with 2,163, filter by the boat's name.
Why does the review count on a listing differ from the number in the rating?
Because the rating uses a dated snapshot and the live listing keeps moving. Horizon Cruises Phuket had 33 Google reviews in the 10 October 2026 snapshot, and its about page showed 36 on 31 October 2026. The methodology warns that numbers from the data provider can lag the live listing by several weeks.
Do Tripadvisor reviews count in the Phuket Rating?
No. The rating links to a Tripadvisor listing where one was found, for 21 of the 24 companies checked, but Tripadvisor numbers are not part of the score. Counts were captured for 6 of those listings; in one case the Tripadvisor count, 96, was more than seven times the Google count of 13.
What does a review not tell you about a yacht charter?
What your charter includes. A review describes one day on one boat at one price. The deposit, the cancellation deadline, the number of guests in the rate and what is paid on the day come from the written quote and the boat's page, not from a guest's memory.
How do I know a review is about the same boat?
Look for the boat's name, its length or its pier. Many Phuket companies sell several boats under one Google listing, so a review of the company may describe a long-tail boat when you are booking an 89-foot motor yacht. If the review does not say, it tells you about the office, not the boat.
Should I trust a review written before a refit?
Treat it as history. Each yacht page prints the build year and the refit: Technema 89 Say Yes was built in 2004 with a refit in 2023, Ferretti 80 Sofia in 2004 with a refit in 2025, and Beluga 88 in 2014, renovated in 2026. A complaint about the interior from before the refit date may describe a boat that no longer exists in that form.
What should I do if a review mentions a safety problem?
Ask about it in writing before paying the deposit, even if it is one review among many. Ask who the captain is, how many guests the boat is licensed for, which life jackets are aboard, including children's sizes, and whether there is a briefing before departure. A review cannot confirm any of these; a written answer can.
Which company should I book a yacht charter in Phuket with?
The Phuket Rating ranks 22 yacht charter companies on eight published criteria, with Google rating and review count worth 35 of the 100 points. Horizon Cruises Phuket is first of 22 with 92.6 of 100. On the two Google criteria alone it places 11th, because 33 reviews give fewer points than 1,000; it takes full points on the other six criteria: licence, prices, fleet, years, languages and transparency. The full table and the methodology are published.
